A digital asset is one that is created on a blockchain / DLT network. Digital assets are everywhere. As a banker, one needs to know how they are created, traded, and invested in. This course focuses on regulated digital assets like bonds, central bank digital currencies, etc.

This course is designed for bankers to understand the key terms and key technologies that form the foundations of the new digital asset world. There are no pre-requisites for the course. The first half of the course will explain foundational matters, while the second half will focus on detailed case studies to cement the participants’ understanding.

  4. This section explores the uses of DLT in secondary markets and introduces the concept of decentralised exchanges.

    • Introduction to decentralised exchanges
    • Trading on decentralised exchanges
    • Depository and custody in the age of digital assets
  5. Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)
  6. Participants will learn about what a central bank digital currency is and how it works.

    • What is Central Bank Digital Currency
    • CBDC infrastructures and models
    • Benefits and Limitations of CBDC
    • Implications on financial markets
  7. Tokenisation of Securities & The Alchemy of Atomic Settlement
  8. This section focuses on tokenisation of securities and the concept of atomic settlement and its benefits.

    • Introduction to settlement cycles
    • Introduction to atomic settlements
    • Barriers to atomic settlements
    • Conditions for true atomic settlement
  9. Fractionalisation Using DLT
  10. Participants will explore how fractionalisation of securities can be achieved using DLT and the benefits to
    fractionalisation.

  11. Primary Issuance on Blockchain
  12. Participants will explore how primary issuance of securities can be achieved on blockchain and the advantages over the
    traditional issuance process.

  13. Regulating Digital Assets
  14. This section looks at the regulatory impact of digital assets on the capital markets, such as the Know-Your-Customer
    (KYC) process and the regulatory challenges.

  15. Case Studies
  16. This section will cover case studies on CBDCs, fractional bonds and primary issuance.

Course Instructors

Dr. Rahul Banerjee​

Co-Founder & CEO

Rahul is a DCM-banker with 20 years of experience, including stints at global premier banks such as Credit Suisse, Nomura and Citi. In his previous role, he was the Global Head of International Corporates, Financial Market Sales at Standard Chartered Bank, where his team was based across all the major dealing rooms and covered the Fixed Income needs of large corporate clients.

George Thomas​

Director – Fixed Income, BondEvalue

George has garnered a decade of experience in Fixed Income Markets having previously worked at Credit Suisse. He used to work on the Asian Local Currency Fixed Income Trading desk for over four years primarily focussing on India Offshore and South East Asian markets. His experience includes trading onshore and offshore FX, Swaps, Bonds and Futures in these markets. Prior to that he was in Fixed Income Front Office Technology at Credit Suisse for over 5 years where he worked on Trading Books and Market Pricers built on Excel and C# technologies. George has a Major degree in Computer Engineering and a Minor degree in Finance from the National University of Singapore.

Rajeev Tummala

Director – Digital & Data, Markets & Securities Services, HSBC

Rajeev has over 22 years of experience in driving transformation and innovation in post trade products and services. At HSBC, he has been primarily involved in developing the capability to service Digital Assets and is engaged with Clients and Financial Market infrastructure providers to create solutions for custody, issuance and asset servicing for digital assets and tokenizing traditional assets. Prior to that Rajeev spent 10 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in various leadership positions in Global Markets Technology and Securities Operations transformation teams in Asia. Rajeev holds an MBA from Booth School of Business, University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Engineering from BITS Pilani in India.
