Malaysia raised $1.3bn via a two-part offering priced on Wednesday. It raised:
- $800mn via a 10Y sustainability sukuk at a yield of 2.07%, 40bp inside initial guidance of T+90bp area
- $500mn via a 30Y sukuk at a yield of 3.075%, 35bp inside initial guidance of T+115bp area
The bonds have expected ratings of A3/A-, 1.7x issue size of $2.3bn. Malaysia Wakala Sukuk, an SPV wholly-owned by Malaysia, is the issuer and the sovereign is the obligor of the sukuk. Proceeds of the sustainability sukuk tranche will be used for sharia-compliant general purposes such as financing or refinancing development spending in social and/or green focused areas under the sovereign’s sustainable development goals sukuk framework.
